In a statement posted on social media, Trudeau said he will isolate in line with public health recommendations.

“I feel okay, but that’s because I got my shots,” he wrote.

The announcement came days after Trudeau attended the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, CTV News reported. The prime minister is fully vaccinated, according to CBC News.

The diagnosis was the second for Trudeau, who tested positive for COVID-19 alongside two of his three children in January.

On Monday, Trudeau urged people to get vaccinated and to get their booster shots.

“Let’s protect our healthcare system, each other, and ourselves,” he wrote.

As of May 30, the last date for which data was available, nearly 82% of the Canadian population, or 31.2 million people, has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to health officials. Nearly 85% of the population – 32.4 million people -- has gotten at least one vaccine dose, and 48% of those who have been fully vaccinated have gotten at least one additional vaccine dose.

Officials have confirmed nearly 4 million COVID-19 infections and reported over 41,500 deaths across Canada, according to numbers compiled by Johns Hopkins University. More than 535.3 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, resulting in 6.3 million deaths, according to the university.
