Could this 23-year-old Chihuahua be the next world’s oldest dog?

PREBLE COUNTY, Ohio — A Chihuahua in Ohio turned 23 on Nov. 10, which might make him the world’s oldest dog.

Spike, who was reportedly born in 1999, could soon beat a Guinness World Record for being the world’s oldest dog, according to WHIO-TV.

TobyKeith, 21, of Florida, recently became the oldest living dog after Pebbles, 22, died in October.

Spike became a part of the Kimball family in 2009 after a trip to the grocery store, his owner, Rita Kimball, previously told WHIO.

“We went out to the car and he followed us and he jumped right in... it was meant to be,” Kimball said.

Kimball said she wasn’t sure how old Spike was, so she took him to the vet, who told her that Spike had been born on November 10, 1999.

According to Kimball, Guinness is trying to get a hold of Spike’s vet records.

Kimball says Spike has been through a lot over the year, including a run-in with a coyote and an attack by a pit bull.

If verified, Spike will be the new record holder for the “Oldest Living Dog.”
