Delta to resume flights to China this week, first US airline to do so

Delta Air Lines announced Monday it would resume flights between Seattle and Shanghai-Pudong on Thursday.

Delta will be the first U.S. airline to resume flights to China after flights were suspended in February when the COVID-19 pandemic was starting to ramp up.

The airline will fly from Seattle to Seoul to Shanghai on Thursdays and back along the same route on Saturdays. Next month, it will add another weekly flight from Detroit to Seoul to Shanghai on Fridays and back on Sundays, according to a statement from Delta said.

“We are excited to resume our services between the U.S. and China, as economic and social activities start to recover,” said Wong Hong, Delta’s president of Greater China and Singapore. “With a mission to connect the world, Delta is committed to getting our customers to their destinations safely and confidently, especially at this critical time. We are implementing unprecedented health and safety measures and practices, so customers are assured of ease and safety at all points of their journey.”

The New York Times reported that United Airlines is also expected to restart flights to China soon.
