Gerrol Vereen, 29, is accused of walking into a CVS in Bradenton on March 18, going behind the counter and slamming a hatchet into it as he grabbed the cashier by the shirt and demanded money, the Bradenton Herald reported.

Vereen is facing an armed robbery charge after leaving the store with $245 from the cash register, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, Vereen walked into the store about 7:30 p.m. wearing blue medical gloves, a sweatsuit and a cloth over his face, the Herald reported.

According to an arrest report, Vereen took a stack of $1 bills from the register and ran out of the store, the newspaper reported.

When police spotted Vereen and confronted him, he admitted he had been running but claimed it was because he was late for his job at a nearby Taco Bell, the Herald reported. Vereen denied he robbed the store, telling authorities he was out for a “spirit walk,” according to the newspaper.

Vereen was arrested and booked into the Manatee County jail and was released Monday after posting $25,000 bail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
