BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A Florida man searching for the perfect backpack for his daughter’s first day of school was rewarded with a nearly $1 million lotto jackpot.
The Florida Lottery said Cleveland Pope won the prize on a $30 Billion Dollar Gold Rush Supreme scratch-off ticket he bought at a Brooksville liquor store, WPLG reported.
“I just happened to be on a different side of town from where I normally buy lottery tickets, all because I was looking for a specific backpack for my daughter to start school with,” Pope, 47, said in a news release.
He chose to take a one-time, lump-sum payout of $880,000, lottery officials said. The retailer where he bought the ticket will get a $2,000 commission.
