BEVERLY HILLS, Fla. — A woman in Beverly Hills, Florida, has been arrested for allegedly shooting her uncle to death during a family gathering, officials say.
Sammantha Danielle Driggers, 20, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, according to a news release from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, dispatch was called about a shooting that had happened on North Columbus Street in Beverly Hills. When deputies arrived at the house, they found Matthew Charles Driggers, 44, with a single gunshot wound. According to CCSO, deputies tried to provide first aid until Citrus County Fire Rescue got on the scene. Once they did, they pronounced Matthew dead.
CCSO said that deputies located and recovered the firearm that was used during the incident.
According to WTSP, witnesses reportedly told investigators that Danielle shot Matthew, her uncle. She was still inside the house when deputies arrived and were later arrested.
“A family gathering to celebrate the holiday season should have been a time of happiness, but instead turned deadly in an instant,” said Sheriff Prendergast in the news release. “This act of violence has shocked our community and will affect this family forever. I am proud of the quick response of CCSO deputies and detectives that ensured this incident was isolated and the community was safe. Our thoughts go out to this family as they begin the long process of healing.”
Sammantha is reportedly in jail on a $500,000 bond, according to WTSP.
