SEATTLE — A man has died after he was reportedly attacked and hit on the head with a hammer in Seattle, Washington, last Friday during a robbery.
Seattle Police Department said, according to KIRO, that on Jan. 13 just around 2 p.m., Christopher Martin, 34, allegedly went up to the victim near Fourth Avenue and Pike Street and hit him on the head with a hammer, and proceeded to steal his backpack.
The victim was taken treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to KIRO.
Martin was allegedly seen following the victim with a hammer in his hand in surveillance video, according to KIRO. Once Martin was behind the man, he allegedly began swinging and hitting the victim on the right side of his head. Martin allegedly grabbed the backpack and ran as the man fell to the ground.
Martin was reportedly arrested shortly after the attack, according to charging documents obtained by KIRO.
The King County Prosecutor’s Office told KIRO that since the victim died from their injuries, they are planning to file additional charges against Martin.
Prosecutors also believe that Martin should have been in custody before the incident due to his criminal history, according to KIRO. He has been convicted of several misdemeanor assaults, theft, and robbery.
