TEMPE, Ariz. — A woman is behind bars following what Arizona police officers called a “barricade situation” in a Tempe shopping center parking lot Tuesday afternoon.
The standoff in the Target parking lot of the Tempe Marketplace attracted a substantial police presence, KSAZ-TV and KPNX reported.
According to the Mesa Police Department, officers initially responded to a report of an assault on a park ranger at the city’s Riverview Park, according to KSAZ.
“A vehicle that may have been involved, left the park and headed west on Rio Salado where it came to a stop in the Tempe Marketplace,” the department told the TV station.
When officers located the recreational vehicle at the shopping center and attempted to coax the occupant outside, the suspect locked herself in the RV, KPNX reported.
The woman was arrested a short while later, following a brief standoff with officers from multiple agencies, including a SWAT team.
It was not immediately clear what charges the woman, whom police have not identified publicly, is facing because authorities have not specified the nature of the reported assault on the park ranger, KPNX reported.
