COLUMBUS, Ohio — Abbott launched a voluntary recall of certain lots of its Ready-to-Feed liquid formula on Friday, citing potentially improperly sealed bottles that could result in spoiled products.

Stomach problems, such as vomiting and diarrhea, could develop in children who consume spoiled formula, Columbus, Ohio-based Abbott stated in the recall notice.

“We take our responsibility to deliver high-quality products very seriously,” Joe Manning, Abbott’s executive vice president for nutritional products, said in a prepared statement.

“We internally identified the issue, are addressing it and will work with our customers to minimize inconvenience and get them the products they need,” he added.

A company spokesperson told CNN that the recall involves “less than a day’s worth” of the total infant formula used nationwide and should not affect the overall supply.

Affected products include certain 2-ounce/59-milliliter bottles of the following brands: Similac, Pro-Total Comfort, Similac 360 Total Care, Similac 360 Total Care Sensitive, Similac Special Care 24, Similac Stage 1, Similac NeoSure, Similac Water (Sterilized) and Pedialyte Electrolyte Solution.

According to CNN, the recalled formula was manufactured in Columbus, not at Abbott’s plant in Sturgis, Michigan, the epicenter of a massive February recall that worsened a national baby formula shortage.

The recall does not affect any other liquid or powder formula brands or other nutrition products produced by Abbott, which noted, “It also does not include any amino acid-based formulas or metabolic nutrition formulas.”

According to Abbott, the recalled products were distributed primarily to hospitals and to some doctors’ offices, distributors and retailers nationwide. One lot was sent to Barbados, Bermuda, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Croix and St. Thomas, while two lots were sent to Canada, Curacao, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago.
