NEW YORK CITY — Police arrested a woman early Monday after officers spotted her snatching presents from under a Christmas tree at actor Robert De Niro’s townhouse in Manhattan, according to multiple reports.
Authorities arrested Shanice Aviles, 30, on burglary charges after officials said she broke into the townhouse on the Upper East Side around 2:45 a.m., WABC-TV reported. De Niro and his daughter were home at the time but had no interaction with Aviles, according to WCBS-TV and the New York Post.
Sources told WCBS that Aviles broke into a basement door of the building. Inside, they found her grabbing gifts from under De Niro’s Christmas tree, WABC reported.
Authorities told WNBC-TV that they had been tracking Aviles, who has 26 prior arrests. The news station reported that she faced burglary and petit larceny charges in 16 of her previous arrests, including seven reported since about Thanksgiving.
It was not immediately clear what charges Aviles would face.
