UNION TOWNSHIP, Ind. — A driver going twice the posted speed limit Saturday had a blood-alcohol level more than five times the legal limit, police said.
When James stopped, the officer said the driver smelled of alcohol and his slurred speech was nearly indecipherable. James denied he was drunk.
Investigators took James to a hospital to have his blood drawn. He recorded a blood-alcohol level of .41. The legal limit is .08.
“Jessie stated that he was not drunk and that if he was in fact a 0.41 he would not be alive,” investigators said in their report.
James was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, with a previous conviction, according to arrest records.
