NEW ORLEANS — Graduates at two high schools in New Orleans have a lot to celebrate, as every single one of them was accepted to college.
All 100 graduates of St. Augustine High School, an all-Black boys school, not only were accepted to college but also earned a combined total of $9.2 million in scholarships, the Vicksburg Daily News reported. A spokesperson for St. Augustine High School told KTVB that 99 of the students have decided to continue their education, while one is joining the military.
“When I heard the $9.2 million I was excited, wasn’t surprised because I knew we could do it,” Tre’Kevin Ellis, a St. Augustine graduate, told WWL-TV. “I felt proud about that because young Black men, people usually doubt us and I just appreciate all the money and scholarships.”

Ellis earned a full scholarship to Louisiana State University, where he plans to major in pre-med biology, WWL-TV reported.
St. Mary’s Academy also announced that its graduating class has an acceptance rate of 100%, KTVB reported. The class of 19 women earned a combined $5.6 million in scholarships, the station reported. The school told KTVB that two students, Sariah Alridge and Kennedy Osum, received more than $1 million individually in scholarships.
Aldridge told WWL-TV she is heading to Howard University in the fall, with plans to be a pre-med biology major and become a dermatologist.
“A lot of people doubted us, like, ‘y’all are such a small class,’ but we did that,” Joy Swain, a St. Mary’s Academy graduate, told WWL-TV.
