The Arizona Department of Public Safety said on Twitter that an “unlikely strike” struck one of their vehicles over the weekend and that three of their detectives were on-duty when it happened.

Three of our on-duty detectives had a scare over the weekend when their SUV was struck by lightning as they drove east on I-10 towards Phoenix,” DPS said.

No one was seriously injured but DPS said that the detectives at first felt a shock and some tingling sensations.

According to KTVK, the SUV — a Dodge Durango — that the detectives were in, wasn’t as lucky. The lightning strike left behind some damage including two holes in the driver’s side roof and the electrical system in the car was fried.
