BOSTON — Can’t you smell that smell? Transportation Security Administration agents certainly did at Boston’s Logan International Airport on Wednesday.
According to a tweet from TSA New England, officers noticed something slightly odd about a candle as it went through security screening. When troopers from the Massachusetts State Police were called in to check on the candle, they discovered it contained marijuana, WFXT-TV reported.
The 53-year-old man who was transporting the candle told authorities that it was a “Secret Santa” gift from a co-worker, TSA New England tweeted.

Massachusetts has legalized cannabis use in the state, but it is still against federal law to carry it through TSA checkpoints, according to Logan International Airport’s website.
“Are we cool? We like to think we’re cool. We want you to have a pleasant experience at the airport and arrive safely at your destination,” the TSA wrote in an Instagram post in April 2019. “But getting caught while trying to fly with marijuana or cannabis-infused products can really harsh your mellow.
“Let us be blunt: TSA officers DO NOT search for marijuana or other illegal drugs,” the agency added. “Our screening procedures are focused on security and detecting potential threats.”
