SANFORD, Fla. — The public may soon get a look at a pair of bold crooks who stormed into a busy Seminole County mall in broad daylight and smashed jewelry cases with a sledgehammer.
The men robbed a jewelry store at the Seminole Towne Center (see map) over the weekend and they were caught on surveillance cameras. Police are hoping the video will give them some important clues, but it may not.
Detectives are going through the video, but they're not sure just yet how well they'll be able to see the two men. The video comes from the jewelry store; there is no surveillance at the mall itself.
Detectives are still working to identify two men who boldly robbed the Mayors Jewelry store with sledgehammers Sunday during shopping hours. Police want to find the men, who were not wearing masks and left their hammers behind.
Police hope blood evidence found at the scene will generate leads and help them crack the case. The men apparently cut themselves while smashing a watch case. They stole all the watches they could get their hands on, leaving behind terrified employees and customers.
Stores like Sears went on lock down for nearly 30 minutes while police searched for the thieves who ran through the mall to get away.
