DeLand Volleyball Forfeits 27 Victories For FHSAA Violations

None — The DeLand High School volleyball team made it all the way to the regional finals last season, but now must forfeit all 27 of their wins because they used an ineligible player.

DeLand was also fined 5,700 dollars by the Florida High School Athletic association. The Bulldogs volleyball team was placed on administrative probation for two years as well.

"DeLand takes full responsibility for the violations," DeLand principal Mitch Moyer told Channel 9. "We did not do our due diligence before the student athlete was allowed to play. We're going to do better in the future."

The investigation by the FHSAA revealed that a player for the Bulldogs had previously played at new Smyrna Beach High School. While with the Barracudas that player competed for a club team that was coached by Blake Rawlins, the son of DeLand head coach Debbie Rawlins.

In the letter of sanction released by the FHSAA it was revealed that the investigation was a result of a complaint by a coach with Warner Christian Academy who "provided information" that showed the student athlete had participated and represented DHS in interscholastic activity while ineligible.

Moyer also said the school elected not to renew the contracts of Blake Rawlins and athletic director Craig Clements as a result of the violations.
