Tropical Storm Josephine forms in the Atlantic; here’s the storm’s outlook

ORLANDO, Fla. — Tropical Storm Josephine formed in the central Atlantic on Thursday morning.

The storm is forecast to remain away from Florida and to dissipate as it moves east of the Bahamas early next week, the National Hurricane Center said.

Meteorologist Rusty McCranie said winds are currently at 45 mph.

“(The) forecast has it staying a tropical storm the next few days, and then weakening back to a depression early next week,” he said. “This looks to stay well away from the U.S. east coast.”

The storm formed about 975 miles east northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands.

The NHC said this is the earliest 10th tropical storm on record.

Channel 9′s meteorologists will continue to monitor the storm in the coming days.
