“Armed trespasser” shot by Lake County deputy

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lake County deputy shot a man in DeLand Sunday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to multiple reports of an “armed trespasser” in a horse pasture on Cooter Pond Road in East Lake County just after 1 p.m.

The suspect ran into a nearby wooded area as soon as the first deputy arrived on scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies searched the woods for the suspect and “ultimately encountered” him again. That’s when the suspect was shot.

He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

No deputies were injured.

Per standard procedure, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the use of force.
