Band Teacher Sent Racy Text Messages To Student

WINTER PARK, Fla.,None — On Thursday night, Eyewitness News obtained the racy text messages a former Winter Park band teacher sent to one of his female students.

Joel Moody resigned from his position at the school earlier this month after an internal investigation was started.

The text messages appeared in Moody's personnel file, and it was those text messages to an 18-year-old student that forced an investigation into Moody's activities.

The text messages say things like, "I want to grab you. Hike up your dress. Well you know the rest," "I can't wait to see you naked," and "I want you so badly."

The internal investigation was started after a friend of the 18-year-old female mentioned the relationship to a teacher at Winter Park High School.

Though the school was investigating, there was never any criminal investigation launched, because the student was 18 years old, making any relationship legal.

But the reported relationship did violate the Orange County Public Schools' code of ethics.

Eyewitness News spoke to students at Winter Park High School, who said they were shocked. "I actually didn't believe it when I heard it, but after seeing those text messages it's like, wow. It actually happened," said Garrett Moses, a student.

According to the nearly 100-page personnel file, Moody admitted to sending the text messages and indicated sending them was an error in judgment.

Some students said they're glad Moody resigned. "I wouldn't feel comfortable being in his class," said student Regina Rinaldi.

Eyewitness News tried to contact Joel Moody Thursday night, but he did not return any phone calls.
