FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. — The Fruitland Park police chief will resign after criminal charges were filed against him. His resignation comes months after a WFTV investigation uncovered that Chief Mark Isom lied about earning college degrees.
Late Tuesday, instead of arresting Isom, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement served him with a notice to appear on official misconduct charges.
"He's given 25 years of excellent service to this city and made one mistake that's cost him dearly," said Fruitland Park City Manager Ralph Boweres.
Several sources confirmed Chief Isom is still in the process of working out a plea deal, so he may never have to go to court.
Since he resigned from the city, he also gave up his job as public safety director.
