ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Public Schools said it’s dealing with a potential budget shortfall while trying to figure out how to bring kids back into the classroom amid the pandemic.
There are a lot of unknowns for both the district and parents as Orange County handles more than 200,000 students coming to schools, but it knows not all of their families are ready for them to be back in the classroom.
The district is still trying to iron out particulars like if face masks and temperature checks will be needed when students return.

Precautions like more cleaning will also be a costly measure. OCPS anticipates $55 million in CARES Act funding will help.
School officials are also bracing for losses with district staff warning projected revenue may be down by $33 million.
The district is trying to encourage parents uncomfortable sending their kids into the classroom to consider virtual options.
School officials are also figuring out ways to socially distance students who do come back by possibly even having a split school schedule.
