Knowing how to change a tire can save you a whole lot of time, money, and hassle. No matter how new your car is or how well you maintain your car tires, flats and blowouts still happen! That’s why it’s smart to be prepared to take on this situation on your own, so you’re not stuck waiting for a tow truck to get you back on the road. Toyota of Clermont is here to teach you how to perform this emergency car maintenance step by step with our Orlando Toyota Service techs!
We’re teaching you how to change a tire!
How to change a tire, part one: The first thing to do is to pull over, obviously! Get off the road so you don’t do more extensive damage to your ride. Make sure you pick a spot that’s away from traffic on the road, but also level and firm. You don’t want to try to to change a tire in a spot that’s sloped or sandy – it can be extremely dangerous!
How to change a tire, part two: The next thing our Orlando Toyota Service techs recommend when changing a flat tire is to get your kit out of the trunk – you’ll need a tire iron, wrench to loosen the lugnuts, and a jack to get your car up off the ground. Loosen up the lugnuts so they’re easily removable and place the jack in a supportive spot – you can do damage to the frame of your ride if you’re not careful. Your owner’s manual should tell you exactly where to put it!
How to change a tire, part three: Now it’s time to jack the car up about six inches and remove the tire! Remove the lugnuts and be sure to put them in a safe spot – you’ll need them to put the spare on. Pull the tire straight out towards you to remove it and put it aside; our Orlando Toyota service techs MAY be able to patch or plug it, so don’t toss it just yet!
How to change a tire, part four: Put the spare on! Slide it on the exact same way you slid your bad tire off and then put on the lugnuts. Our Orlando Toyota service techs remind you to be sure to tighten them EXTREMELY tight – they’re keeping your wheel in place, so you don’t want them to be loose. Voila!
How to change a tire, part five: You’re not quite done yet – pack up your tools and head into our Toyota Service Center in Orlando! A spare tire is no good when it comes to long distances or high speeds; it’s really only meant to get you to a mechanic where you can get a new tire. Be sure to visit Toyota of Clermont as quickly as possible to get a real tire back on!
