DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.,None — A pastor was sentenced to 45 days in jail on Tuesday for an incident that happened last year; however, he is allowed to return to his church, the Pentecostal Apostolic Lighthouse Church, to preach on weekends.
Last September, Pastor John Edwards was pulled over in front of his mothers house around 3 a.m. According to the arrest report, Edwards got out of the car after being asked, but didnt cooperate and was belligerent. The female officer took her taser and stunned Edwards twice, officials said. Edwards became enraged at being stunned and turned the taser on the officer, zapping her in the chest, according to the report.
Edwards was found guilty of battery on a law enforcement officer for the incident. He was arrested for the same thing a decade ago, but beat the case. Despite the guilty verdict and the sentencing, the pastors past hasnt effected his congregation, and his wife said he isnt a violent man.
My husband is not an abuser. Weve been married 30 years. He doesnt hit me, said Mardecia Edwards.
