8 arrested in Mount Dora drug bust

8 arrested in Mount Dora drug bust — More than a half-dozen drug dealers are off the streets after authorities said they caught them operating near a middle and high school.

Federal, state and local agencies seized pot, prescription pills, cash and guns from multiple homes in the bust.

“The Mount Dora Police Department has been working with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) over the past four months on an operation called crackdown,” said Mount Dora Police Department spokesperson Megan Glass.

At about 5:45 a.m. Monday, investigators said low to mid-level drug dealers awoke to officers busting through their doors.

“About 100 officers, including SWAT from Eustis and Mount Dora, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the DEA executed five search warrants,” Glass said.

Officials don’t have amounts for the cash and drugs, but said it was a significant bust.

Eight people were arrested.

Investigators said the drug dealers were operating a few blocks from Mount Dora Middle School and Mount Dora High School.

Code Enforcement staff condemned two of the homes.

Officials said it’s still an active investigation and there could be more arrests.
