BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Eyewitness News has found out more about a Brevard County man who was arrested after a Channel 9 investigation.
Ray Cunningham, also known as "Mr. 420," is accused of selling fake medical marijuana licenses and marijuana.
9 Investigates reporter Christopher Heath found out that Cunningham isn't a member of the church he said he represented. The Native American church said he used its name to try and sell the medical marijuana licenses.
Police said Cunningham was also selling marijuana.
"It's clear this was a money-making scheme where he was defrauding people," said Daniel Lynch with Melbourne police.
Cunningham told Channel 9 in February that he was a member of the Oklevueha Native American Church, and he was operating under the umbrella of the church.
But the church's co-founder, James Mooney, said Monday that it's not true. The church has sent a cease and desist letter to Cunningham.
The church, which is based in Utah, does use marijuana in some of its ceremonies. But Mooney said Cunningham misrepresented having any affiliation with the church.
Cunningham remains in the Brevard County Jail, along with his wife, on a $139,000 bond.
