ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — As Amazon worked to restore service after one of its East Coast servers went down Tuesday, the effects of the issue have gone as far as knocking out online courses at the University of Central Florida.
The UCF Webcourses system was knocked out by the Amazon glitch, which kept students from checking grades, using textbooks and taking online tests.
“I just had an exam yesterday,” UCF junior Jacob Ray said. “I tried to get on, check my grades to see how I did, and lo and behold, I can’t do that because it’s down.”
UCF senior Jay Houston was frustrated by the outage because it was making it difficult for him to study for an upcoming test.
“I actually have an exam Thursday, so I was hoping I could get some feedback from some classmates,” he said.
The Amazon outage has affected numerous personal, commercial and government websites, and while the company said techs have identified the issue, no details were released on how long it would take to fully restore service.
Just talked to officials with @UCF -- all Internet courses are unavailable right now b/c of issues from @amazon's cloud service. #WFTV

.@ucf spokesperson told me they're expecting an update on a fix in about 30 mins. At last check, there was no ETA on such fix. #WFTV
