Are remote workers more loyal? Here’s what WFH means for turnover

Remote workers are more loyal, and that could save businesses thousands of dollars per employee in turnover costs.

An analysis of more than 100,000 workers on payroll and benefits provider Gusto Inc.’s platform found that being categorized as a remote worker correlated to a 13% decrease in the likelihood of quitting within the first three months.

And that means savings when the replacement cost for an employee ranges from $1,500 for low-wage workers to two times the annual salary for highly-sought technical workers.

“We are finding in the data that remote workers tend to be stickier,” said Gusto Economist Liz Wilke, who stressed we are still in the early stages of what has been a dramatic shift in remote work.
