Armed man surrenders after barricading himself for hours in Orlando condo

ORLANDO, Fla. — An armed man barricaded himself in a condominium for several hours Thursday morning following a fight with his girlfriend, the Orlando Police Department said.

The incident was reported shortly before 6:45 a.m. at a home on Soria Avenue in the Villas of Costa Del Sol complex near South Semoran Boulevard and La Costa Drive, police said.

Police said when Raymond Marshall, 30, got home at 4:30 a.m., likely intoxicated, he and his girlfriend began to argue and he pulled out a gun. The woman grabber her 1-year-old child and left.

“I know they have a history of domestic violence and I know she was scared enough to call her father,” said Sgt. Wanda Ford of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman’s father called police.

The situation prompted surrounding homes to be evacuated and BridgePrep Academy was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

The road leading into the neighborhood was also closed off.

By 1:30 p.m., a large law enforcement presence had grown and officers said they had made no direct communication with the man.

A mobile command, armored cars and several cruisers responded.

Marshall surrendered peacefully by 2:30 p.m. No one was injured.

When police first arrived at the scene, they heard someone through the walls and said he sounded angry or irate with someone on the phone.

“He was on the phone and he was screaming and he sounded irate,” said Ford.

The complex is also near Jackson Middle School and Englewood Park Elementary School, but officials haven't said if the schools were also placed on lockdown.

No other details were given.
