ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The body of a 41-year-old man who vanished after a canoe capsized was found early Friday in a lake, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

The body was discovered at about 2 a.m. Friday, Orange County Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said.

A 48-year-old man was rescued shortly after 1:45 a.m. Thursday from the waters of Lake Fairview after a canoe in which he and another man were riding flipped, Orange County Lt. Edward McCullough said.

A Sheriff's Office helicopter crew lowered a flotation device to the struggling man and guided firefighters to him, McCullough said.

The man, who was taken to Florida Hospital Orlando in stable condition, told rescuers that he had lost track of the man who was with him in the canoe, deputies said.

The identities of the men haven't been released.

Deputies said it's unknown why the men were on the lake so early in the morning. They said they don’t believe the pair was wearing life vests.

No other details were given.
