Brevard County senior living facility gets multi-million dollar makeover

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Trinity Towers, which is home to hundreds of low-and moderate- income seniors just got a $9 million makeover.

Renovations to the 17-story tower include a number of health and safety upgrades. Channel 9’s Melonie Holt learned similar plans are under for Trinity Towers East and South.

Trinity Towers West in Melbourne was built in 1974, and many of the units haven't seen any significant changes since that time.

When the Preservation of Affordable Housing acquired the high- rise along with Trinity Towers East and Trinity Towers South in 2013, the nonprofit took over a property in need of renovation.

“We have such a need for affordable housing, particularly for seniors and people with disabilities on fixed incomes. They have very few housing options,” said Aaron Gornstein, CEO of Preservation of Affording Housing.

Trinity Towers West was the first property to secure construction financing. Every unit now has a new kitchen, windows, flooring, heating and cooling and sprinklers. The units are also more accessible.

“This way I can walk in there, no problem,” said resident Marie Savage.

Similar upgrades are coming to Trinity Towers South and Trinity Towers East.

Two weeks ago, residents complained of a broken down cooling system.

“Now we want to move onto Trinity Towers East and South because they are in tremendous need of renovation, and we want to make sure that we preserving this for the long term here in Melbourne,” Gornstein said.

Renovations to the south tower are expected to begin as early as this fall. The east tower will see upgrades in early 2017.
