Central Florida reacts: Credit card companies raising holds at gas stations

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Credit card companies are increasing the hold a gas station can put on your account.

Central Florida gas prices have been creeping down ahead of the summer holiday after spending weeks at record-breaking highs.

However, this new twist could land some people in financial trouble if they’re not paying attention, and some people said they’re canceling their holiday weekend plans.

Credit cards put holds on your account for a few hours or more. Major card companies are raising the hold from $125 to $175, putting financially strained families at risk of overdraft fees or being stranded.
