Cocoa Beach nudist resort booked solid

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — A nudist resort in Cocoa Beach may be the talk of Thursday night's city council meeting. The motel opened this week and it is booked solid.

The Fawlty Towers Hotel was booked solid after years of struggling. It nearly closed its doors for good, until it became a nudist resort.

"Oh, it's been great, wonderful. We're getting nothing but good comments," said Fawlty Towers owner Paul Hodge.

It's possible that could change, however, when the city council discusses what they call the "new business philosophy."

But Hodge said he hopes for the best when he attends the meeting at City Hall with his attorney.

"I want to assure them that they've got nothing to worry about whatsoever," Hodge said.

Some residents have expressed concerns about the resort in the tourist sector, but other long-time residents have no problem with it.

"If there's a nudist hotel and they're not bothering anybody, why should anybody care about it?" said Cocoa Beach resident Mark Demos. "I suppose it's anxiety from ignorance, really. Nothing's changed, nothing looks different from outside. It all looks the same."

The Faulty Towers is sold out for the first time in a many years, and now even other business people are courting Hodge.

"I have two weddings that want to get married in the nude. I do it at Playalinda, but I was looking for a resort for nudist weddings and now I found one," said wedding planner Joey Lafata.

The city manager said council member and residents will be able to voice their opinions and concerns at Thursday night's meeting.
