Cold case arrest: Orange County detectives arrest man in 2016 murder

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla — An Orange County man faces a second-degree murder charge after deputies say they connected him to the murder of a Mount Dora man in December 2016.

Detectives said they were able to identify Tavon Hill and connect him with the murder of Louis Massa through DNA evidence.

On Dec. 2, 2016, Orange County deputies responded to Massa’s home off Terrell Road for a well-being check.

As deputies approached the home, they found the 64-year old’s body wrapped inside a tarp.

At the time of the murder, deputies had a vague description of possible suspects who were seen leaving Massa’s home earlier that day.

While investigating, deputies found a bloody sweatshirt left behind Massa’s house.

Investigators were able to use DNA from the sweatshirt to build a profile of one of the possible suspects.

Several months later, deputies responded to a home burglary not far from where Massa was killed.

Acting on a tip, deputies were then able to trace the break-ins back to Hill.

After getting a warrant, investigators were able to match Hill’s DNA with the suspect profile from the Terrell Road murder.

Hill was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Orange County Jail without bail.
