Cops: Drunken woman smoking cigarette backwards had child, beer in car

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A New Smyrna Beach woman is being held in the Volusia County Jail without bail Tuesday, after deputies said she drove while drunk with a child in the car.

Deputies said they arrested Christy Bostic-Petrain, 38, Monday morning.

She was charged with DUI and child neglect, authorities said.

Deputies said they thought she was intoxicated when they saw her fumbling with her seat belt and smoking a cigarette backwards.

Deputies pulled Petrain over, and said she blew more than twice the legal limit through the Breathalyzer. They said they found open beer containers in her car.

Authorities said the 11-year-old boy in the car was turned over to a family member.
