ORLANDO, Fla. — Troopers shut down a section of Alafaya Trail in East Orange County Saturday night after a serious crash near Waterford Lakes Town Center.
The crash sent at least four people to area hospitals.
Witnesses said a red Dodge pickup T-boned a sedan along Alafaya around 10:00 p.m. The collision sent both vehicles careening off the roadway.
They came to a rest in a ditch across from Bahama Breeze restaurant.
Troopers believe the sedan was southbound on Alafaya, attempting to turn left into the Ashton at Waterford Lakes apartments, when the pickup, traveling northbound, collided with it.
Emergency crews had to rip the roof off the car to rescue at least one patient trapped inside.
Troopers told WFTV two of the injured, including an 18 year-old male and an elderly man, suffered life-threatening injuries.
One of those patients was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The road re-opened just before midnight.
Troopers continue to investigate the cause of this crash.
