MELBOURNE, Fla. — Brevard County Fire Rescue said a lighting malfunction may have caused a furniture store to catch fire.
The fire broke out Tuesday morning at the Kane's furniture store in Melbourne on New Haven Boulevard.
Officials said the fire could have been a lot worse if someone had not called to report it.
"It may have smoldered for several hours throughout the night, but once the traffic built this morning, I think that's what initiated the call," said Brevard County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Bob Thirkelson.
There was no damage to the roof or the inside of the store.
The fire remains under investigation.
