Questions surround 70-year-old's death in Barefoot Bay community

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies have released the identity of a woman found dead in a storage shed in the Barefoot Bay community last week.

The body of Doris Johnston, 70, was found when Brevard County Deputies went to check on her at her Gladiolus Drive home after out-of-state relatives called and said they had not been able to contact her for several days.

Investigators told Channel 9 that Johnston's body was found in a storage shed on her property.

"The unusual part of this that worries us is that something happened to this lady that was caused by somebody else," Maj. Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said.

Eyewitness News learned that other people had been living with Johnston for six months before her death. Deputies said it was a family from the community that had been having difficulties and needed a place to stay.

One person who was living with Johnston left the state before her body was found, investigators said. The others have spoken to detectives about the case.

"(There's) nothing that we know of missing from the house, but we are going through the records and everything to make sure the finances are accounted for," Goodyear said.

Deputies are hoping that an autopsy will help them determine how Johnston died.

Investigators ask that anyone with information call Agent Joe Martin at 321-633-7162 or Crimeline at 321-423-TIPS (8477)
