Deputies make arrest in shooting death of Orange County teen

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of an Orange County woman.

On Thursday, deputies said they had arrested 19-year-Michael Necy on charges of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Shaniya Charles.

Just after 11 p.m. Jan. 7, deputies responded to a shooting at the Castilian Apartments.

When deputies arrived, they found Charles lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

Charles was taken to the hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

According to an arrest report, when detectives questioned Necy he denied being at the apartment complex.

Once investigators pointed out that witnesses had heard Necy and Charles arguing he changed his story.

Necy said Charles had given him a gun “as a gift” and that she had tried to grab the gun when it accidentally fired.

Necy was booked into the Orange County Jail and without bond.
