Deputies: Ride-share driver shoots passenger in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A ride-share driver shot and injured a man who was a passenger in his car early Tuesday, the Orange County Sheriff’s said.

Deputies responded to the area of John Young Parkway and State Road 528 shortly before 1 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about an emergency at that location.

Deputies said a ride-share driver had picked up a couple in downtown Orlando for a ride to their hotel.

Investigators said prior to entering the car, the driver witnessed the man strike his girlfriend.

During the ride, the man sitting in the back seat of the car, identified as Daniel Pacheco, struck his girlfriend who was seated in the front passenger’s seat, investigators said.

The driver told deputies that Pacheco also hit her in the head.

OCSO said the driver ordered the man to get out of the car and told him that she had a gun.

After getting out of the car, the two had an argument. The driver said Pacheco aggressively charged at her, and fearing he was going to strike her again, she fired, striking him.
