VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County teacher has been identified as one of the 18 people arrested in a sex sting at a park.
Todd Johnson, 49, works at New Smyrna Beach Middle School where he teaches language arts, speech and English, district officials confirmed.
Since December, Johnson was an online instructor. It’s unclear if he taught summer classes, but a spokesperson for the school district said he’s no longer allowed contact with students. The officials said removing his access to students is the first step as it follows due process.
Johnson was busted over the weekend in an undercover sex sting at Sleepy Hollow Park, deputies said. The bust was one of several held at six county parks over four days.
An undercover agent said Johnson was on his knees and waving to the agent to come over. Moments later, Johnson exposed himself, deputies said.
The last day for teachers was May 31, the bust happened June 1.
Johnson has posted bail.
