Deputies: Woman stole thousands from 92-year-old Villages resident

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A woman living in The Villages and caring for an elderly woman was arrested Monday, accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the man, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Vicki Lee Laspina, 59, swindled the 92-year-old woman out of $14,679.

According to investigators, Laspina took the woman to a bank in The Villages and while there arranged to have her name placed on her checking account.

Investigators said Lapsina told a bank official she was the woman's daughter.

According to investigators, Laspina got two cashier's checks, one for $5,000 and a second for $9,679.

According to the arrest affidavit, Laspina said she "did make a mistake by generating the two cashier's checks without the victim's consent."

Laspina booked into the Marion County Jail and charged with fraud/swindle to obtain property under $20,000 and Larceny $10,000 to $50,000 from a victim 65 years old or older.
