Disney's newest cruise ship, "Fantasy," calls Port Canaveral home

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla.,None — The newest cruise ship in Disney's fleet the "Fantasy," which cost almost $1 billion, sailed into Port Canaveral on Tuesday morning.

The Disney "Fantasy" is longer, taller and holds more passengers than Disney's first two passenger ships, "Wonder" and "Magic."

"Fantasy" along with its sister ship "Dream," which sailed into Port Canaveral one year ago, cost $1.8 billion to build.

The cruise ship traveled from Germany to New York on Friday. After years in the making, "Fantasy" was finally christened in New York.

The second and final ship of Disney's planned $1.8 billion dollar cruise line expansion is very similar to the "Dream," with a large water ride called "Aqua Duck," sitting high atop the ship and stretching nearly 800 feet long.

The new ship is approximately 40 percent larger than the Disney "Magic" and the Disney "Wonder."

"Fantasy" has more than 1,200 state rooms and can hold 4,000 passengers. The new ship has increased Disney's passenger capacity by 150 percent.

It will feature interactive games for families, nightlife for adults and of course all of the restaurants and amenities expected from a Disney cruise.

While the "Dream" is used for three- to five-night cruises to the Bahamas, the "Fantasy" will take passengers on seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruises.

The new ship will feature more entertainment, including gourmet restaurants, live stage shows, and a spa.

WFTV checked to see what it would cost for a family to take a cruise aboard the "Fantasy."

WFTV searched prices for a cruise that leaves April 28. Prices range from about $3,800 for an inside state room to nearly $6,800 for a room with a veranda.

The "Fantasy" is set to launch March 31. The new cruise ship's maiden voyage is already sold out.
