ORLANDO, Fla. — The Secret Service has become involved in an investigation following dozens of reports of stolen credit and debit card information, and fraudulent charges that may have happened on the University of Central Florida campus.

UCF officials said someone has ripped off students and staff at restaurants and shops.

Student Andjie Jeudy said she swiped her debit card around campus frequently, but had no idea investigators were trying to track down whoever’s using those card numbers to rip off students and staff.

“I think that’s terrible,” Jeudy said.

Ten people filed credit and debit card fraud reports within the past few days.

The school said about 20 others have reported suspected cases of fraud, but haven’t filed a report with campus police.

“It’s terrifying, of course. You don’t want to get your card stolen,” said student Tyler Martinez.

Martinez said he used his debit card everywhere on campus.

The UCF Police Department announced that so far it appears the credit card fraud is only happening at vendor locations on campus.

Many of the fraud reports involve businesses located in the UCF Student Union, Knights Plaza and the John T. Washington Center, police said.

UCF said the bogus charges haven’t popped up on any university-controlled accounts, such as financial aid or class registration.

But some students are still on edge.

“I’ll probably withdraw cash and use that for a bit until this kind of blows over,” said student Juwan Bobb-Dubroi.

UCF said anyone who has used a debit or credit card on campus recently should check their bank statements.

The school added it doesn’t believe it has anything to do with last year’s massive data breach.
