ORLANDO, Fla. — A member of the New York-based string quartet Brooklyn Rider has been named the artistic director of the Orlando Philharmonic.
Eric Jacobsen was named Monday as the head of the Orlando symphony after a two-year search that included four other finalists.
The 32-year-old Jacobsen will make his debut as artistic director in late October.
Jacobsen also is a co-founder of the New York-based orchestral collective, The Knights.
The hunt for a new musical director led to sold-out shows as each of five finalists performed for Orlando audiences.
Audiences got to vote for their favorite in what locals joked was the classical music equivalent of "American Idol."
