Ex-Osceola teacher accused of inappropriate relations with students faces new accusation

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A former Osceola County teacher accused of having inappropriate relationships with students is in trouble again.

State officials said Bryan Lockley did not disclose the allegations on an application to get back in the classroom.

Channel 9's Tim Barber learned Lockley denies the latest allegations and has hired a lawyer.

The Department of Education said Lockley "failed to acknowledge" the investigation on an application for a new teaching certificate.

In 2013, Lockley was accused of sending sexually suggestive texts to two 17-year-old students while teaching at Liberty High School.

Court records show the state attorney's office dropped the case against Lockley because the case was "not suitable for prosecution."

Lockley even got an order to expunge his records, which could help get him back in the classroom.

But WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said a license is a privilege, not a right.

"Certainly the Department of Education is going to take into consideration the health, safety and welfare of the community before they decide whether or not to grant a license," he said.

The Department of Education will hear Lockley's side of the story in September.

Lockley's case is an administrative matter, so he will not be charged criminally.
