Final witness testifies in fatal College Park boyfriend shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. — The jury in the Caryn Kelley manslaughter trial is expected to get the case sometime Tuesday.

Kelley is accused of shooting her boyfriend, Phillip Peatross, to death during a drunken argument inside her College Park home in 2011.

The final witnesses took the stand Tuesday morning.  Prosecutors called a friend and an ex-girlfriend of the victim in the case.

Kelley broke down and cried when prosecutors showed police video of her inside an interview room that was taken after she learned Peatross was dead.

The defense claims Peatross grabbed the gun and shot himself.

Even though her attorney told jurors Kelley would take the stand, on Friday, Kelley told the judge she was too emotional.

Peatross' ex-girlfriend, Tamara Lawton, testified that Peatross had wanted to get back together with her.

"I love you. I want you to come back to me," Lawton said as she read a message from Peatross.

"And he continued to contact you?" the prosecutor asked.

"There were multiple contacts. Many times, I did not respond. They were by text or voicemail," Lawton said.

Kelley faces up to 30 years if convicted.
