WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — Channel 9 viewers have raised concerns over a system meant to keep drinking water safe.

The state is planning to audit the city of Winter Springs amid fears its utility systems are being mismanaged.
City leaders said they are confident the issues are being addressed.

However, a joint legislative committee called for a full operational audit of the city.
The move was spurred by water quality concerns that have been raised by residents.
Winter Springs has admitted to making mistakes in the past.

A partial sewage leak led to this fish kill in January of 2021.
In 2017, unhealthy levels of cancer causing trihalomethane were found in the drinking water.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s data shows the city is meeting all its drinking water requirements.
