Troopers responded to the area of I-95 near Micco Road around 7:30 p.m. Sunday after multiple people reported seeing a golf cart being driven northbound on I-95.

The first trooper on the scene arrived to find a semi truck pulled over on the shoulder with a golf cart in front of it.

According to FHP, the truck driver said she was also northbound on I-95 when she saw the golf cart traveling in the center lane.

The truck driver said she saw the person in the golf cart passing out while driving it and used her own truck to guide the golf cart off the road.

FHP identified the person driving the golf cart as 58-year-old Diane Hawk.

The truck driver told troopers that after she got the golf cart to stop, she had to take the keys away from Hawk “because she was being combative,” according to Hawk’s arrest report, and was trying to take off in the golf cart again.

When troopers made contact with Hawk, they noticed she appeared to be disoriented and very argumentative.

When asked for her driver’s license, troopers say Hawk handed them a restaurant card. When they asked why she was on I-95, troopers say Hawk told them she thought it was legal to drive a golf cart on Interstate 95, “because she saw it on the news.”

Troopers noted Hawk was slurring her speech and had an odor of alcohol on her breath that got stronger as they got closer to her.

When they searched the bag Hawk was carrying, troopers say they found an open bottle of Jack Daniels’ Tennessee Fire whiskey.

Hawk denied having consumed any drugs or alcohol. The troopers said they weren’t able to perform a field sobriety test on Hawk because she was being so combative with them.

Hawk was arrested and charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer, both misdemeanors. She’s since been released on $500 bond.
