MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A Crescent City woman was arrested Saturday after sheriff’s deputies said she stabbed a man to death and injured a woman at a Marion County home.
Amy Hogg, 33, faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following the early morning incident on W Highway 318 near Flemington, Florida.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the residence at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Sept. 19 after receiving reports of the attack.
Deputies located the male victim with multiple stab wounds and rendered aid until Marion County Fire Rescue crews arrived, but the man died at the scene.
Emergency responders also treated a female victim who was stabbed while attempting to disarm Hogg.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Hogg was a family friend who had come to stay with the couple on Friday evening.
The group began drinking alcohol and Hogg became intoxicated before starting an argument with the female resident.
The argument escalated when Hogg pushed the woman, prompting the male resident to step in and separate them.
A short time later, the female resident heard Hogg and the man shouting at each other.
She called 911 and found the male victim bleeding on the floor and gasping for air.
While the woman was on the line with dispatchers, Hogg repeatedly stabbed the man while mocking the woman’s pleas for help until the woman managed to disarm her.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detective Henrik Osthed responded to conduct the homicide investigation.
Hogg was arrested at the scene and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Hogg remains in custody at the hospital, where she is held without bond. Sheriff’s officials said she will be transported to the Marion County Jail once she is medically cleared.
