ORLANDO, Fla. — Work has begun to get ready for renovations to Hillcrest Elementary School in Orlando.
Movers could be seen clearing out chairs and other furniture from the school Saturday.
Permits for construction show the renovation will add an 74,000 square-foot classroom building to the site as well as a two-story parking garage.
The additional classroom space will allow the school to serve 500 students, up from the 420 students served in the last school year.
In April, neighbors told Channel 9's Shannon Butler they had objected to Orange County Public School's original plans for the parking garage, submitting their own plans for a softer look.
After a bit of back-and-forth, neighbors were able to reconcile their design with the one originally presented by the school district.
Full plans can be found on the city's website.
